During the Latest Comp in Poland Euro Tour.. Karlson was penalised 1 shot…The ball moved after he had grounded the club on the Green behind the ball..He had NOT touched the ball…I know that is the rule..He gained no advantage from this incident..He did bring the incident to the attention of the Ref..but said he did not think he had grounded his club…and was informed there was no penalty.Subsequently he was shewn tele coverage and he agreed he did in fact ground his club, inadvertantly, and a Penalty stroke was incurred…He called the Ref’s attention to the matter in the first place…>>Is it all getting a little too precious?

Some golf rules like that can be a little annoying. I don’t think many will be changed though.
I don’t think there are any more lame rules in golf than there are in any other sports.
That’s the thing about golf. The rules leave no room for interpretation…like in every other sport.
If the ball moved it’s a stroke. Black and white. If that rule changes then you’re gonna have instant replay initiated in this sport too. “Did I ground my club or not?
If the ball moved after address, it’s a penalty.
If you watched this year’s Open Championship, you saw what a lot of the guys were doing (not grounding their clubs to avoid a penalty).
Rules fo Golf have been in transition since they were made part of the game. The reason for rules and the Decisions on the Rules was to get everyone who plays the game to do so within the same framework. This is one of very few sports where the honesty of the player is uppermost and where players call infractions against themselves. In the case where the club is not grounded and the ball moved and the player has not taken his full address position, there is no penalty. However, even if his club is not grounded and he has taken the full address position and the ball moves, he has been deemed to have caused the ball to move and will be penalized accordingly.
