John A asked:

It’s that time in my life when I apply for a job and I asked for an application at one of the Golf clubs near me. I’m a very social and polite person and I think I would do great there, plus I love to play golf. Any suggestions or tips on things you think I should do to make myself stand out from the others?

A sense of humour is always good. I work at a club and whenever they throw me out as a starter, I would converse with the players, make jokes, things like that. For a bad first shot, I would ask them if it’s their first time out this season. If I hear a yes, I would tell them that they should’ve started back in March and question their fanhood….in a light way.

1. if possible get a referral from someone who works there or is a member

2. tell them i know how to do what i am told, don’t complain, will never miss a day and will always be on time

For any first time job at a golf course or elsewhere dress neatly, groom yourself properly( comb your hair ), ask what the open positions may be. You are showing an interest in possible employment. If you know members they may recommend you to the person doing the hiring.
